Back to Lafayette: The Fort Greene Booklyn Flea!!
Filed Under Fashion, For the Weekend, Street, Vintage | 1 Comment
Don’t get me wrong. I loovvvee the space of 1 Hanson Clock tower, but it’s never the same as when they are on the Lafayette!! The outdoor. The trees, sunshine, good old simple outdoor but it is way easier to look around and somehow the Red Hook family’s Pupusa’s way more delicious on the stoop of the playground than the bank’s basement safe.
It was so beautiful and lively at the market! I completely enjoyed warmth of sun on my back.. Ahhh… A few new great vendors with awesome pieces and the character watching is always the big part of hainging out at the fleas…!
I Luuuvvved this vendor! These poly/plastic letters are quite cool over the sand box!

And we loved this 8 foot long old farm table from PA. Not so bad I thought priced at $350.
This is not a camera trick. This KWICK Marine tin can is like 5 times bigger than me.
His mustache and red blazer and his purple shirt and 50’s neck tie
Loved her with her old camera.
and her for her swanky sexy argyle sweater.
and these 3 fantastically 80’s kids
and my Favorite of the day, “Singing in the rain girl !”
her for her french-ish great spring coat and well fitting matching boots,
and this kinda expected but always good looking couple
for her spirit filled with all the picnics she will have this spring!
and the seller and the buyer
and I digged these hipsters digging and digging
the porchetta station, yum!
to top it off, a live nordic brass band!

And now we leave all the fun of the flea market behind and off to Fort Greene Farmer’s market!

We got basils, mints, lemon verbenas and more…!
Oh we chatted for a while with this lovely farmer. He has 30 grand kids! Gael guessed his age at 100 years old but he was wrong… haha. He’s 71 years old! God bless you!

Into the park, I mean look at this tree, How amazing is it!!!

And my 2 handsome boys. Love you guys!!!
The Joyful Heart Aching Walk: The 40 years’ YLS Retrospective, Paris

I like to Thank to Kelly for arranging our tickets to be rushed to our Hotel, So we could watch YSL Retrospective just in time! The door opens at 10:00 am and I highly recommend you to purchase the ticket before you get there due to the popularity of the show you may end up standing for a long time in the line to buy the ticket.
God, I felt so Nervous waiting and getting one step closer to Petit Palais’ Grand Entrance and the exhibition. Just like when I was 5 years old, the Santa came to our daycare. I remember my 2 sweaty little palms rubbing over my little pleated skirt. I was about to go say hi to him!

Entering and My heart beating fast!

The initial of the First room: Yves Saint Laurent 1936-2008. There are total 15 rooms through out the exhibition housing 300 haute couture models with a selection of pictures, drawings and films. This Retrospective was made possible under the patronage of Madam Carla Bruni-Sarkozy: The ex-super model who worked closely with Yves Saint Laurent and the current first lady of France.
His general approach to Fashion and Leading ahead provoked me to think about what I do and what I contribute as a designer and also as a simple human being. How much Do I Push Myself to loose fear in general and pour my guts and soul out in creative way? A big question.

Room 2: Dior Years.

The Modern shapes: Cynthia and I were talking about how modern these looked. The head wrap and tunic, You can put these on and step right out today and will look so chick.
The boxy cropped boy cut with sexy drapy blouse. Quite beautiful. The over sized pockets are fabulous!

Saint Laurent was a leader. He initiated brand new things. He gave answers to need. He drove the fashion world and a new life style: “Pants” for Women, New Tuxedo= the Smoking, City Safari and so much more. He said, ” Fashions come and go , style is eternal”
The room 6: Catherine Denevue, Respect and admiration at First sight. Quote from the walking guide. ” In 1965 she walks into the boutique on rue Spontini with a model cut out of “Elle”. The actress is 22 years old and already a symbol of French womanhood. Two years later Yves Saint Laurent will create her wardrobe for the film she makes with Bunuel. ” She has a marvellous heart” he used to say. This room was set up to remind her closet. Small and intimate. No Mannequins. I loved it.
Room 11: Imaginary Journeys. There are total 44 models inspired by his traveling through Spain, Russia, India, China, Japan and Africa, especially Morocco. As all of us know Morocco has been his love of Life. Morocco was a only country he visited repeatedly. He ended up purchasing a house called Villa Mabrouka, or House of Luck in 1998 with his partner Pierre Berge. Yves Saint Laurent later said about his Russian collection was a very important break through for him as a designer. The Russian collection really brought him his best creativity to work through the entire collection working with every single colors from the paintings and experience and emotions he had from Russia.
The room 12, Through The Looking -Glass of Art: This room really struck me. It took my breath away. It was the moment to witness Yves Saint Laurent enlightening his work to another level by attributing his masterful Haute Couture to his well respected Artists as Mondrian( the first Art actually he owned), Matisse, Bonard, Pablo Picasso, Tom Wesselman, Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque, Vincent Van Gough, Serge Poliakoff and Bambara Art…
My heart started moving in pieces and my eyes became teary…
A tribute to Georges Braque, also you can find this photo on the page 325 of the Hard cover book published with the Exhibition: Yves Saint Laurent
The Tribute to Mondrian and Tom Wesselman.
Knitted Wool Wedding Dress, 1965: It reminds me of Russian doll. You can find much better photo on page 250. the dress in the exhibition led the public to the Room 13, The Last Ball room and Room 14 or i rather call ‘The Smoking Wall”.
The room 13, The Last Ball Room : Puccini in my year, Yves Saint Laurent at my heart. I just broke down. I was deep into this unbelievable beauty and style created by one and only Yves Saint Laurent and the Era I never have been. The room also offered lovely velvet covered bench along the wall so you can sit down and enjoy the grand view of this room.

In year 2002, The Last Runway show of Yves Saint Laurent himself: The Retrospective. The Exhibition is featuring every piece from this runway. And right outside of the entrance to the first room had videos running for the public.

His Last Bow. 2002
Walking out of the Exhibition, I felt like Julia Roberts in the film, “Pretty Woman” where the Scene she breaks out in tears watching La Traviata by Verdi in the box, opera house…. It was unbelievable feeling to have.
Break your piggy bank. Skip your bag of the season. This YSL Retrospective is one enough Single reason to be in Paris. The show runs till August 29 this year.
And I pay a huge credit and respect to Petit Palais who executed this beautiful exhibition with all the right lighting, well thought out innovative layout, different and exiting dynamic from the room to room. I can’t just imagine seeing this exhibition in any other place!

Hipster’s Heaven: Mauerpark Flea, Berlin
Filed Under Berlin, Fashion, Street, Travel, Vintage | 2 Comments
One after another, they All got own thing going on. Many beauties too. I Absolutely LOVED the Mauerpark Flea!! A place to be for people watching and vintage shopping!!
Established in 2004, the Flea Market Mauerpark is a newcomer to the ranks of Berlin’s fleamarkets (located next to the Wall Park (Mauerpark) in Prenzlauer Berg) hasn’t made it into the guidebooks yet – it still has quite a local feel and a variety of interesting stuff. It’s also where Prenzlauer Berg’s fast rotating population goes to divest itself of unwanted stuff – you might find some useful things if you’re just setting up home. The market is located near to the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion M10 tram stop (formerlyOderberger Straße) and is a short but pleasant walk from the U2’s Eberswalder Straße (Station). The market is located next to the Mauerpark.
Let’s begin!

If you are coming to Berlin, this is a must check out. Have fun!

The Hottest New Home for Brooklyn Flea: 1 Hanson, the Clock tower

Honestly, I got all distracted by surrounding beauty of formal Williamsburgh Savings Bank, I did not get to see any of stuff at the market. Wow, the space blew my mind. It was packed. The space made everything looked much better than what it was.
Stepping in. It hits me with this grand gorgeous view and Miles Davis’ Panthalassa: the remix by king Britt, Dj Cam, Doc Scott echos under the 20-30 foot ceiling. It’s awesome.

The vendors take every inch of the space. It’s great to see everything is still there. Look at this beautiful teller’s window!
Looking out to main hall through the formal service office.

The view from the Mezzanine.
Then there would be many of these raw industrial looking rooms as well filled with visitors and vendors. The vibe is great!

Aren’t they all great? I find the Brooklyn flea is getting better and better.

A great look! love her soft hair and worn in denim jacket and a hat.
Then here comes a real eccentric flea marketer. I always love them. They add so much spice to fun of flea market. I have to go back one day without my boys just to browse and browse and take pics of people.

Windows and more windows. They are so beautiful!

The shadow of metal work follows right after the metal work itself creating this beautiful image.

God I love all of these old signs you can see everywhere.
Cute combo of fur and floral but not granny.
Now at the basement level. Yes we are going into the safe through this enormous and amazing vault door. Everyone was moving so it was hard for me to get the still shot.
Food vendors are in and out side of the safe. Good portion of inside is used for seating. It literally had ” underground party” vibe. Very cool.
Gael showing off his find of the day, $2.00 sparky robot. While he runs, he sparks!!!

By the end of March, The Brooklyn Flea will be moving out from the formal bank and go back to good old Fort Greene and Dumbo. So Don’t miss this opportunity to see flea at this amazing space. I think this is the hottest home so far.
Road trip to PA 1

It was my second trip to Adam’s town in Pennsylvania. If you like flea markets, you are in. Woooooh, I love the whole action. Get a car. Hit the road. Finally arriving. Browse and browse. Photos. Brainstorming. Silly ideas. Laughs with Emi and Gael. Earliest dinner ever at whatever restaurant in town. More Laugh. Cheap Wine. Holiday Inn. Hitting outdoor markets at 5 in the morning. Crisp air. Fog. Sun rise. Gas station coffee in my hand. Good talks with townees at the markets. Always inspiring to be out there and see things sharpening and relaxing my eyes and tastes. I just love it!
I so regret I had never taken pictures of Twin towers from the Manhattan or the Brooklyn bridge. When we used to party a lot till sun rise, I remember gauging at beautiful Twin towers from the Taxi crossing over the bridge and thinking how hot NY was…

I think the Manhattan bridge is just beautiful as Brooklyn bridge. And also it’s just that much closer to our house on Washington Avenue.
I always complain how America is bit weird with timing. We have not had Thanksgiving yet but everyone is selling things for Christmas. Though I liked what’s going on in Adam’s town. Bit of Christmas vibe here and there…

Duckies in front of Mad Hatter Antique.
The green one looks almost not real.
So wanted to get this, but too big and waaay too heavy to carry to where we wanted… Darn!

Absolutely love this. It turns and all.

Bird Watching: Citizen K international, E’te’ 2009 and Lacasapark
Filed Under Fashion, Vintage | Leave a Comment

I have this thing for the bird. The feathers, the open wings slicing thin air, feather pens, as soft as they are and as hard as they are , they are all amazing. Something that just “Fur” would not do, Something more sophisticated, definitely regal and somewhat mysterious about it. Love birds. Citizen K international shows one of my favorite subject in October Issue and I dig it.

These Shoes do it. They are like 1000 x blown up eagle’s ones. Nina Ricchi. Not sure If you could walk in them, but I find them quite striking. Haha Can you imagine me or you standing in these on the subway station waiting for a C train to work? You must need leggings.
Vintage 1930’s feather and tulle bonnet. I always had collected little buns and hats from the 30’s and 40’s. at LACASAPARK. $120.00 Oh and there are a few more around the bird theme at the shop.

This dress right here is from the Martin Margiela’s limited ”Artisanal” edition. He only had designed and actually produced handful amount of different dresses and some crazy leathers and others. I was able to see the entire book when I was at Paris in his store just last month.
I’m side tracking, but this is one pic out of the look book of Artisanal collection of Margiela.
