I’m So torn that I am NOT going to go see this piece,  ”The Deer House” at BAM ( premiers on October 5).  I’ll be out of the town… for the entire period while this piece is showing. The Next Wave Festival every year at BAM always brings something intriguing.  And for this year,  ” The Deer House” will be that intriguing piece to me.  By the way Vollmondo ( Full Moon) , the modern dance piece by Pina Bausch ( with all my respect for her) also looks quite amazing.  The short clip of the Deer House shows already enough of intensity of this piece in great amount of mad beautiful costumes very much inspired by Matthew Barney’s works ( actually maybe TOO much inspired and not sophisticated enough as Barney’s that is disappointing in a way I have to say).  I would love to go see this show so I can properly review the piece but anyhow seeing it from the video clip and reading what is all about, it sounds quite interesting. So if anyone of you go see it, drop me an e-mail like you always do.

Here I collected a few of what main inspiration of the Deer House may have come from (apart from the story) :  watch Matthew Barney’s  cremaster .  And below a few pic of Matthew Barney’s work. I mean how much he had inspired this world we all live in. Genius!

A fine artist, printing maker Jill Lee has started her own line of artsy and hand made Printmaking House called ” Beau Ideal” in Summer 2007.

“It was really important for me to get back to my roots in Art, design, and printmaking, so I finally took the leap to start my own business.” Jill says. The Cooper Union graduate from the Advancement of Science and Art in New York where she received her BFA also worked as a aspiring fashion designer for a long time before she finally went back to her roots.

The Artist says, “I am too inspired and influenced by textiles, decorative motifs, and patterns found anywhere and everywhere from the arts of different cultures to the flourishes in calligraphy. I am heavily influenced by typography as well, so love exploring and playing with hand drawn type”

8_ifeelloved-inexh” I feel loved” gouache 12″x16″, 2009 , Jill Lee: You can see her inspiration coming through quite strongly from every piece. I really love Jill’s take on this piece. She humanized 3 bundles of distinctively different textile in patterns and colors by giving the “life” to them. The move, the attitude and the emotion. I almost Envy their love. Simple yet powerful. And the title all together I find this piece very much successful.

11_kimono-inexh“Kimono”gouache 11″x15″ 2009, Jill Lee : Here again Jill shows her great ability to impose her subject through her object. The way these textiles are interacting together totally forsee the ones of Kimono.

Jill creates bigger scale paper prints as well as great stationery as cards and notebooks and they are fantastic. Below pictures are from Jill’s Beau Ideal at Saturday Brooklyn flea. Every piece has her spirit and distinctive character. They are well made in great quality! To shop her stationery, Check out www.etsy.com/shop/beauideal

Before it completely ends, I wanted  to capture it and put it on our blog. Someday I’ll see it again and Gael can see it too and Gael will remember how beautiful autumn can be and know how fortunate to have a park like Fort Greene Park right near us.

Alex and Lara had moved near the park recently and they have this beautiful view of the park from their cutest terrace. Yes sure they also see red blue white lit Empire state building across the river but I’m more envious that they have the view of the Fort Greene Park.  The park has been such a part of our lives here in Brooklyn for last 10 years.

So, last week we had gone to this hidden gem of still rough around the edge area, Bed-stuy in Brooklyn. Sarahgina. Rustic Italian food and great wood firing oven pizza! Superb decor and well priced and focused menu. We know the owners of the place, Edoardo and Massimiliano. Edoardo lives in our neighbor Fort Greene but you must have heard of this feminine clothing line called, Tocca. Yes  Edoardo is the founder and owner of Tocca, and Massimiliano is owner of 2 well known restaurants, Malatesta and Piadina in West village in NY and also lives in Bed-stuy. And Edorado is actually the one in the kitchen!

Apart from who we know and how we know, this place is one of Must check out. The space and setting is light yet rustic and somewhat reminds you those chick upstate farm shop mixed with bit of flea market vibe. Every corner has been used up for smart and great details and storage. The place makes you think  you want to quit whatever you do and want to open a restaurant just one like it. It’s a very cool space.

6-saraghina

7-saraghinaI had put only a few images from NYmag .com  But also there’s whole back of the restaurant space with a room dedicated for the wine and communal long table, which definitely gives this restaurant a garage or barn like feel. It’s rustic and cozy but not cutesy.

So the food. It’s very home made feel. The presentation of menu is just great with old type writer typed on easy note book like paper and they are simple and wholesome.  Gael had fresh tagliatelle ( wide hand made pasta) with Ragu. And the Ragu was excellent!  I had a pizza with fresh prosciutto and funghi. The dough was subtle and crunch around the edge and topping were fresh and flavorful. Emi and Beppe had also le Pizze with Burrata (Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese made out of Mozzarella and cream. and it has this amazing soft and creamy texture! Originated in Puglia of Italy)

100% of staffs at Saraghina are handsome and good looking Italians with witty and quick service. The whole experience just brought me back to modern day dinning at small towns of Italy.

We were there at night time but from seeing the photos of NYmag, this place must be so beautiful and light filled to have awesome brunch as well. Go check out this pace before it gets too popular and you need to wait in the line!

IMG_3778DARR is two hands down the best shop on Atlantic Avenue , Brooklyn.

I have a vintage business and I love it but it’s true that I’m bit bored with too much of mid-century stuff. I prefer different things from the different era and different things from the different culture. I like the flair and taste of mix. I dig sense of  ”Traveling” in this shop. It’s cool.

IMG_3779It’s a part Speak-easy, a part Serengeti and a part Now, this moment.

IMG_3780Signature items in the shop, beautiful taxidermies. Mountain goats with beard.

IMG_3785The shop owner, Brian Cousins.

IMG_3787

I like lofty and airy feel of the shop. Right amount of items with hunky pieces that grounds the entire space but also you will see many small items that are affordable and interests you. Glasses, spoons, pillow cases, post cards, books, amazing posters, always intriguing laboratory tools… They may come from Italy, Vermont, Africa, Portland, India… I only guess. The shop makes you think and imagine the places and smells of where they all may come from. I always imagine this man traveling in a pair of linen pants and well worn out good leather bag, beautifully cut soft blazer and wispy hair and bit of beard… The shop feels masculine in a very nice way  with bohemian flair lying underneath, which feels somewhat sexy.

IMG_3788

IMG_3783

IMG_3777

Lastly , the store front.  Brian’s business partner, a tall and witty man, Hicham spends more time in the newly opened Men’s wear shop across the street.( I do not believe it has particular name? at least outside of the shop…)  The shop carries all the right classic items for the men like Woolrich sweaters, this great looking tooth paste and bottled perfum from Italy, all the right accessories like key chains and bags and more. The clothing shop definitely carries same vibe but in more intimate setting with darker and musk like feel. I wanted to take a few pics of the clothing shop but they were way too busy for that moment so I didn’t want to bother them too much. Please check them out.
