I know not all of us have a real back yard or even a small terrace where you can try to grow some basil or something. Or maybe it’s about more the mental availability to even try to set up a smallest earthy situation where you can poke your pale fingers into. You see ladies standing in the lines to get into some sample sales in those high heels for hours under the hot sun. You can easily burn off $9.00 for a pack of cigarette. Somehow you always have money and time for everything else.
But how about little time and couple of bucks for planting something for your soul?
All you need is some time to walk over to community gardens and sweat a bit. Go to local nursery and pick up a couple of herbs. The joy and satisfaction you get out of watching your little herbs growing is something that you can’t just measure. If one of the rose finally bloomed, it feels like you won the whole wide world. It’s amazing.
Emi and I are not at all the expert gardeners but we definitely enjoy it. When the first strawberry came out last year, our son would ask me to go check it out every morning together. Sometimes, he would take a bite right out of the vase. And believe me growing strawberries are way easier than keeping up with orchids. All you need to have is a vase, soil and water. And the Sun will take care of the rest. They will be keep coming and grow quite fast.

This Sunday the 14th, there’s an interesting event in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. If you don’t feel for all the action of gardening, you can at least enjoy what others have done. The 12th annual Fort Greene Garden Walk features 10 private gardens, three Community gardens and the Greenspaces Rooftop Farm along some live music as well.
